Elmer A. Martin, 91, of Dover, and a former resident of both Cleveland, Ohio and Charleston, South Carolina, died Saturday, evening, November 26, 2005, in Union Hospital, Dover.
Born September 17, 1914, in Cleveland, he was a son of the late Andrew and Susan Martin. Elmer was raised in Cleveland, and graduated as Valedictorian of his class at East Technical High School. Elmer went on to earn degrees from Fenn College, Cleveland State University and Case-Western Reserve University. He was a Professional Mechanical Engineer for Bailey Meter, a division of Babcock & Wilcox, for thirty-seven years.
Elmer was a member of the New Philadelphia Congregation of Jehovah�(TM)s Witnesses. He was a former Presiding Overseer of Newburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�(TM)s Witnesses. Elmer very much enjoyed teaching people about The Bible. He also held a professional membership in the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, serving many years as Treasurer.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine S. Martin of Cleveland, and Cheryl M. (Joseph) Coniglio of Dover; a son, David E. (Rosemary) Martin of Hartsville, South Carolina; two grandsons, David A. (Christine) Martin, and Ashley L.D. (Heather) Martin; two great-grandsons, Andrew Grayson Martin and Cameron Ashtin Martin; a sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Schuller of Port Charlotte, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Frieda Marie Martin, in 1999; and by a sister, Elsie Yannie.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 30, at 5:30 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�(TM)s Witnesses, 1212 Kelly St. N.W., New Philadelphia, with Tom Gallagher officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
