Elmer E. Roberts, 85, of Dover died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a carpenter, having retired from Union Local 69 in Canton after many years of service.
Born May 21, 1919 in Ruraldale, Ohio he was a son of the late Fred and Dessie Devol Roberts.
He was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover where he served as an usher. Elmer was also a member of Dover Senior Citizens, charter member of the Tuscarawas County Flying Club and was a Navy veteran of WW II. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Mabel Roberts who died on July 3, 1989.
He is survived by two sons, David and his companion, Bobbie E. Lax of Strasburg and Don and his fiancé, Marty Phillips of Columbus; sister, Frances (John) Matas of Malta; granddaughter, Amy Jo (Rob) Barrick of Bolivar; great granddaughter, Taylor Barrick.
He was also preceded in death by two sister, Lena Ritchey and Corrinne Clay.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
