Elsie A. Carothers, 93, of the Country Club Retirement Center and formerly of Crater Avenue, Dover, Shelby, and Ashland, Ohio died Thursday, September 16, 1999 in the center.
Born September 13, 1906 in Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late John and Elspeth Murray French. Her family came to the United States in 1910.
Elsie was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover and the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. 'Ed' Carothers who died April 10, 1974.
She is survived byher son Robert Carothers of Ashland along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Carothers Jr. who resided in Shelby, one daughter, Betty Moore who resided in Dover, one brother, Bill French and three sisters, Mary jane Morganstern, Katherine Thompson, and Daisy Kerns.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 2pm in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover, with Pastor Dode Overton officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday, one hour prior to services.
