Elsie I. Guedel, 79, of Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Hennis Care Centre in Dover lovingly surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer.
Elsie was born September 16, 1928 in Comins, Michigan, the daughter of the late William and Carrie (Beaber) Emig.
She taught elementary school at Dover Wooster Highway for a year and the Strasburg Elementary School for six years.
Elsie and her husband, Clayton were members of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover since 1948 when they were married by the late Rev. Reinhard Krause. She was also a member and Past President of Penobscot Homemakers for 37 years and a local hobby club for 20 years.
She attended Fairview High School in Michigan and Montmorency County Normal School in Hillman, Michigan. She enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards, making lap robes for area nursing homes and traveling. She also enjoyed visits from her family and friends. Elsie will be remembered as a caring mother and homemaker. She loved solving crossword puzzles and was a whiz at putting together picture puzzles.
She is survived by her loving husband, Clayton with whom she would have celebrated sixty years this June 17; She is also survived by her daughter, Connie (Daniel) Burrier of Dover and her son, Les M. (Diane Kay Schilling) Guedel of Divide, Colorado; five grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Russell of Browns Mills, New Jersey, Trevor (Amy) Burrier of Dover, Brent (Heather) Burrier of Bolivar, Eric Guedel and David Guedel both of Divide, Colorado; seven great grandchildren, Robert and Matt Russell, Tyler, Katie, Breanna, Hayden, and Alayna Burrier; brothers and sisters, Wilbert (Velma) Emig of Comins, Beulah Collins of New Philadelphia, Frank (Gloria) Emig of Comins, Esther Bills of Mio, Michigan, Velma Ouimette of Mt. Morris, Michigan along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by two brothers, Elton Emig and Gene Emig.
A funeral service celebrating Elsies life will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 11am in the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover with Rev. Michael Lowry and Chaplain Brian Flood officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall at St. Johns. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday from 5-8pm and at the church Wednesday from 10-11am.
