Elson C. “Joe” Austin, 82, of Strasburg died Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Cleveland Clinic following an extended illness.
He retired from the Eaton Corporation in Massillon after 36 years of service.
Born June 24, 1920 in New Philadelphia he was a son of the late Floyd and Nellie Baker Austin.
He was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church, Dover Moose, Eagles and VFW. He was also a member of the Strasburg American Legion and was an Army Air Corp. veteran of WW II.
Elson was preceded in death by his wife Margaret McKinney Austin who died on January 15, 2002.
He is survived by a daughter: Renae Zimmer of Massillon
Two brothers: Lowell (Ivy) Austin of Canton
Donald (Elva) Austin of Coshocton
Sister: Virginia Napier of Navarre
Grandson: Craig Zimmer
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 11: 00 am in the Toland-Hezig Funeral Home at Strasburg with Rev. Steven Court officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call at the funeral home in Strasburg on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.
