Elva M. Tomblin

Elva M. Tomblin, age 82, of Zoarville, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in Union Hospital, Dover. Elva had battled cancer, which was diagnosed several months ago.

Born June 27, 1932, in Mineral City, she was the daughter of the late Adrian and Yvonne (Ley) Brown. Elva's father died when she was just an infant, and her mother married the late Clarence Powell, who played a major role in Elva's upbringing. Elva graduated from Mineral City High School in 1950. She was a loving homemaker, and served as secretary to the principal of Tuscarawas Valley High School, retiring in 1972.

Elva especially enjoyed time spent with her family; she liked gardening growing flowers, caring for her dog, Joe, and her cat, Callie, and working puzzles. She was a member of American Legion Post 519 Auxiliary, Mineral City.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanna (husband, John) Edie, and her son, Jami (companion, Josh McFadden) Tomblin, both of Zoarville; her grandchildren, William (wife, Kathy) and Sean (wife, Monica) Edie, Shavonne (husband, Casey) McMillan, Ashley (Bryce Newbold) Sanatore and Tristen Tomblin; her ten great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Claudette Tomblin of Selma, North Carolina; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Powell of Mineral City.

Besides her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by her son, William V. Tomblin; her granddaughter, Christy Tomblin; her brother, Clarence J. Powell; and her former husband, William J. Tomblin.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, January 7, 6 7 p.m. A funeral, officiated by John Dunn of St. Matthew's Community Church, Mineral City, will follow at 7 in the funeral home.
