Elwood J. Farnsworth

Elwood J. Farnsworth, age 84, of Massillon, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in his home, following a long battle with cancer.

Born Christmas Day, 1929, at Wade, Washington County, Elwood was a son of the late Elmer and Hazel (Moore) Farnsworth. He moved with his family at a young age to Tuscarawas County, and attended school in Strasburg. Elwood married the former Ruth Pickar on February 18, 1950, in Strasburg's St. Aloysius Church. He retired from LTV Steel at Massillon.

Elwood was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity at Zoar. In years past, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Sharon (Tracy) Goddard of Midvale; his son, Terry (Patricia) Farnsworth of Canton; his two grandchildren, Tracy (Robert) Russell of Dover, and Amanda (Robert) Dye of Massillon; his great-grandsons; his two sisters, Laura Roberts of Wellsville, and Doris Heid of Bolivar; and his several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, October 10, 5 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted Friday at 7:45 p.m. Elwood's funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Tyron Tomson on Saturday, October 11, at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Zoar. Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Strasburg. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Church of the Holy Trinity.
