Erma I. Mumma

Erma I. Mumma, age 77, of Dover, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, in The Cleveland Clinic.

Born October 26, 1936, on her family's homestead at Stone Creek, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Lillian Harmon Mizer. Erma graduated from Stone Creek High School, and was employed by the Suburban Propane Company at Dover. On April 30, 1961, she married Simon P. Mumma, Jr.; the couple reared three children and shared fifteen years of marriage, prior to Simon's untimely passing on April 15, 1976. Erma was a loving homemaker who also kept the books for the family's business, Mumma Farms.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover, the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau and the Brandywine Grange for many years helping to serve meals for the Grange at the Tuscarawas County Fair. Erma enjoyed gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers. She also liked to bake, and will be remembered for her cookies at Christmas and Easter.

Survivors include her son, Dale Mumma; her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Smith of Smithville; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Smith; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Ted Loessi of Dover, and Mary and Don Carruthers of Berea; her nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Simon, she was preceded in death by her son, Bruce A. Mumma; her brother, Donald Mizer; and her brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Wilma Mizer.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 27, at 1:30 p.m. in Dover's Maple Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard at Dover.
