Erma V. Ray, 93, of Dover died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Country Club Retirement Center.
She retired from Park Elementary School in Dover, having worked in the cafeteria for many years.
Born October 3, 1915 in New Philadelphia she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Dora Cordrey Patton. Her husband, John H. Ray who died on May 27, 1983 and a son, Joseph "Sonny" Ray, also preceded Erma in death.
Erma was a member of the First Christian Church in Dover, Winfield Homemakers Club, was a 50-year member of the Reliable Rebekah Lodge and served as a 4-H Advisor for over 20 years. Erma was a very busy and active woman well into her 80's and early 90's. She was still gardening last year, as well as playing cards, crafting and taking care of her animals. Her family would sometimes observe that Erma never met an animal she didn't love. Earlier in life she would also enjoy traveling and camping.
A wonderful mother and grandmother Erma will be sadly missed by her son, Roger (wife, Sandy) Ray; daughter, Betty (husband, James) Huff; sister, Vemba Breniser; daughter in law, Dee Ray all of Dover; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Chris Mulpas officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call in the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
