Estelle Hilton, age 85, of Warsaw, and a former Dover resident, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Signature Healthcare, Coshocton.
Born October 10, 1932, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, she was the eldest of six children born to the late Earl and Rosielee Keeton York. Estelle moved with her family at a young age to Ohio and attended school, but it later became necessary for her to leave high school before graduating so she could help care for her large family. Estelle married Francis Hilton, who survives, on January 30, 1952. She was employed by Dover’s Union Hospital as a dietary aide, and later, by the Alfred Nickles Bakery, Navarre, from which she retired. Estelle was a very caring individual - always willing to help - who loved people.
She was a long-time member and supporter of the Salvation Army, and belonged to the organization’s Home League. Estelle also was a member of the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers Union, and especially enjoyed getting together with her former Nickles co-workers.
In addition to her husband, Francis, she is survived by her children, Robert Dale Hilton of Dover, Evelyn Gardner of Sherrodsville, and Steven Tyler Betz of Warsaw; her grandson, Derek Johns; her great-granddaughter, Cameron Elizabeth Cantwell; her sisters, Carol (Tom) Kinser of New Philadelphia, and Earlene McInerney of Copperas Grove, Texas; and her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Estelle was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Danielle Johns; her great-grandchildren, Addilyn Johns and Ricky Dale “J.C.” Sickafoose; her sisters, Vera Potts and Esta Johnson; and her brother, James York.
Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, January 10, 3 - 5 p.m., at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 11, at 1:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Estelle, please visit the obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.
The family suggests that contributions in Estelle’s memory be made to the Salvation Army, 809 Emmet Ave. N.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
