Esther E. Harstine, age 88, of Dover, and a former resident of Baltic, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover. Esther had battled lymphedema for some time.
Born March 31, 1927, at Baltic, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Julia (Snyder) Huprich. Esther graduated from Baltic High School and went on to work in Baltic's telephone office. She later was employed by the General Clay Co. at Baltic from which she retired.
Esther was a long-time member of Zion United Church of Christ, Baltic, where she sang in the choir; she was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star at West Lafayette. Some of her favorite pastimes were needlework quilting and cross-stitching, baking and playing euchre.
Survivors include her loving husband, Laird D. Harstine, whom she married on April 15, 1972; her step-daughter, Sherry Harstine of Canton; her step-sons, Tom (Sandy) Harstine and Bill (Jan) Harstine, both of Strasburg, and Greg (Michelle) Harstine of New Philadelphia; her seven grandchildren; her two great-grandchildren; and her several nieces and nephews, including Rita (Ken) Mast of Dover, and Kenny (Margaret) Gardner of Pickerington.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Gardner.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 7, at 11 a.m., in Zion United Church of Christ, with Dr. Jim Henniger officiating assisted by Pastor Jason Humble of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Baltic. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Zion Church. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, December 6, 2 5 p.m., and on Monday, 10 11 a.m. in the church.
