Ethel "Peggy" (Crowe) Lengyel, 94, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family.
Born on September 8, 1920 in Liverpool, England, she was one of six children of the late Patrick J. and Ethel Maude (Tooth) Crowe. She was working for British Censorship in Bermuda during World War II, when she met her husband, Andy. The couple married in 1944. Andy preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Gerald (Cathy) Crowe, Billy (Pat) Crowe, John (Cathy) Crowe; sister, Molly Crowe; and her son in-law, Bill Paris.
Peggy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. She also loved reading and playing cards.
She is survived by her eight children; John (Connie) Lengyel of Lake Elmo, MN, Molly Paris of Portland, OR, Margaret (Terry) Olbrysh of Phoenix, AZ, Andrea (Louis) Settimio of Dover, Judy (Stan) Clegg of Dover, Philip (Rose) Lengyel of Bolivar, Lisa (Tom) Wiegand of Dover, Felicia (Dan) Wassum of Butte, MT; sixteen grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Lindsay Alexander, Denise Slipka, Heather Paris Sendecke, Claire, Andy and Billy Paris, Christy Hopson, Tony Settimio, Joe Settimio, Nathaniel Olbrysh, Sarah Lewis, Jeff Clegg, Sarah Sponaugle, Andy and Rachael Wiegand; and 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Clare Johnson of London, England.
A Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Immediately following the mass, a meal will be served at the St. Joseph Family Life Center. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday, January 12, 2015 from 6-8 pm. A Christian Wake service will take place at 7:45 pm.
