Eugene R. Schwartz

Eugene R. "Reifie" Schwartz, 80, of Dover died on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Hennis Care Center in Dover following an extended illness.

Born in Winfield, he was the son of the late William and Ruth Reif Schwartz. He graduated from Strasburg High School in 1949. Shortly after high school, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Eugene married Marlene Geckler on July 3, 1955. Together they had two children. He was a member of the Tusco Travelers and the Good Sam Club "Roadrunners" Chapter 70, which is an international camping club. He was also a member of the Church of New Hope in Dover and was active for many years with Mobile Meals. When he was not busy traveling, he enjoyed spending time in his gardens.

In 1995, he retired from Marsh Lumber Company in Dover where he worked for 45 years.

In addition to his wife, Marlene, he will be sadly missed by his daughter; Mega (Jim) Snyder of New Philadelphia; son, Gary Schwartz of Dover; two grandchildren; Jami (Kurt) Vandock of Houghton, New York, and Ryan Haswell of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Mary Schwartz of Bedford, Ohio, and June Marburger of Marion, Ohio; as well as his brother, Glenn (Eileen) Schwartz of Dover.

In honoring Eugene's wishes, cremation will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 11:00 am with Pastor Daniel Legg officiating. Following the service, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center in Dover. Burial at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia will take place at a later date.
