Eugene “Suchie” Such Sr., 81, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, July 27, 2001 at Aultman Hospital following an extended illness.
He was a retired employee of the Republic Steel Company in Canton where he worked for over 45 years.
Born September 7, 1919 in Canton, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen Such.
Eugene graduated from Strasburg High School and served in the US Army during World War II. He loved his family and his pets and enjoyed helping people.
He is survived by his wife Opal Mae (Bo) Smitley Such with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on July 20.
He is also survived by his daughter Toni (Dean) Patton of Dover and his son, Eugene “Gene” (Anita) Such Jr. of Dover.
Eight grandchildren Katrina Moore, Andrea, Eugene III (B.J.), and Adam Such, Jessica Newton, Roy, Jim, and Bob Patton
Seven great grandchildren Daylin Moore, Jeffrey Newton, Cheyenne and Warren Lippencott, Tony, Andrew, and Tyler Patton.
One brother Tom (Polly) Such of Northridge, California and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by one brother, Emil Such.
A private memorial service for the family will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Clifford Hughes officiating. At his request, cremation has taken place with inurnment in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. There are no public calling hours.
