Eva Rae Weisgarber

Eva Rae Weisgarber, age 88, of Strasburg, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover. Rae, as she was often called, had suffered a series of strokes the past few years. She was a fifteen-year breast cancer survivor.

Born October 12, 1926, in Enterprise, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Johnson) Meeks. Rae attended school in Alabama, and moved to Ohio in 1953. She was employed by the Central States Can Company in Massillon a job she absolutely loved - for over forty years, retiring as a quality control inspector.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Strasburg. Eva Rae loved Strasburg softball, growing flowers and caring for her dogs, Bosco and Simba.

Survivors include her children, Harry (Bonnie) Wood , Pamela Kay (Tim) Schram and George "Buddy" Weisgarber III, all of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Sonya Swiger, Charles Douglas (fiance, Jan Vee) Wood Jr., Charlene Chapman, Blaze (Krystle) Wood, Michelle (Scott) Dufore, Edward (Michele) Wood and Haley Schram; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Marcus (fiancee, Kassidy Abel) and Kaitlyn Swiger, Zachary Denham, Christian, Kyle and Jasmine Chapman, Landyn Wood, Bryce and Brooke Gasser, and C.J. Wood; her daughter-in-law, Lucy Wood of Strasburg; her sisters-in-law, Kay Meeks of Georgia, and Kay (Bob) Hollender of Massillon; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Eva Rae was preceded in death by her first husband, John Wood, and by her second husband, George Weisgarber Jr.; her sons, Charles Douglas Wood and Rex Allen Weisgarber; her brothers, Buddy and Ed Meeks; and her sisters, Merle Boykin and Nell Bauer.

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 18, at 11 a.m., in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Bartell of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia officiating. Burial will be in Strasburg's Grandview Union Cemetery.
