Evangeline “Vance” Pryor, 91, of Dover went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 4, 2017.
Born on June 7, 1926 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Louis Walker and Sophia Weaver Walker Watts. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Tate (1969), second husband James Pryor (2009), son, Stanley E. Tate, Sr. (2007), Mother-in-law, Mary Lee Tate (2003) and ten siblings (six brothers, four sisters).
She graduated from Dover High School in 1944. She worked for Snyder’s Mfg. Co. in New Philadelphia as a sewing machine operator for 15 years and later retired from Rickle Home Center in New Jersey after 15 years of service as an accounts payable clerk. She served as a poll worker for Tuscarawas County for more than 20 yrs.
She greatly enjoyed traveling, gardening, exercising, and bowling being a member of both Barb’s Beauty Shop and the Boulevard Lanes teams.
She was dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Dover where she was once the oldest member. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and Missionary Society, and served as an usher for many years. She was a worthy matron of Naomi Chapter 85 Order of Eastern Star of Uhrichsville. When she lived in New Jersey, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens where she served on the Usher Board and as “Miss First Baptist” from 1979 -1981.
She will be sadly missed by her son; Larry Tate of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Toi (Henry) Williams of Katy, Texas, Stanley (Ann) Tate Jr. of Leawood, Kansas, and Carrie Lowery of Pittsburg; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn (James) Mills of Dover; along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the First Baptist Church in Dover on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 1:30-3:30. A celebration of Evangeline’s life will take place at 3:30pm on Saturday with Pastor Rasheed As-Samad officiating. Immediately following the service, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Burial will take place at Dover Burial Park on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00am.
