Evelyn Faye Jones, age 92, surrounded by her loving family, was welcomed home to the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, October 5, 2010.
Born, December 31, 1917, in Louden, just north of Parral, she was the daughter of the late Smiley and Lillie Weiss Wallick. Evelyn grew up in Columbia, attended Wooster Highway School, and, as a young lady, worked for the former Dover Sad Iron Co.
Evelyn met her future husband and the love of her life, Daniel E. "Danny" Jones, at Studer's Skating Rink in 1939. They courted and often went dancing at Studer's and at the Spanish Ballroom in Dover. Evelyn and Danny were married on December 6, 1941, and enjoyed sixty-three years together until Danny's death in 2005.
Evelyn was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was devoted to the care of her family. She was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Church in Strasburg where she enjoyed many good friendships. Evelyn belonged to the church's Busy Bee Quilters for over forty years, and served on First Lutheran's Altar Guild for twenty years. In addition to quilting, Evelyn liked to crochet and do embroidery, and made special afghans and slippers for loved ones. She was also always ready for a good game of Euchre with family and friends.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Danny, a brother, Adrian Wallick and three nephews preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and James Bailey of Dover, and Joy and David Carpenter of Carroll; two granddaughters and their husbands, Tammy and Joe Elsen of Cincinnati, and Heather and Jay Herbert of Dover; a grandson, Daniel Carpenter of Carroll; four great-grandchildren, Katy Elsen, Monica, Carly and Jason Herbert; several nieces, including one with whom she was especially close, Marilyn Davis of Dover; and a nephew.
