Evelyn F. Matthus, 95, of Dover, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Penny Matthus, at Mineral City..
Born Jun. 19, 1911, in Gilmore, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Jess and Hazel Kees Helter. As a girl, she attended the Pleasant Valley School, a two-room schoolhouse in Washington Twp., and went to the West Union Church
at Gilmore. Evelyn was a homemaker, and also worked in housekeeping at Union Hospital. Additionally, she cleaned private homes until she reached the age of ninety. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and
canning fruits and vegetables and making jam, much of which she gave away.
In addition to Kendall and Penny, survivors include a daughter, Wyladean Galbraith Bitikofer of New Philadelphia; a son and daughter-in-law, Karl Jr. and Brenda Matthus of Mineral City; grandchildren, Todd and Kendra
Matthus Crilley of Mineral City, Kendall Matthus II of New Philadelphia, Karl Matthus III and Amy Tate of Mineral City, Jason and Amy Matthus of
New Philadelphia, Jason and Beverly Tatman Fish of Iowa, Craig and Amber Tatman Stukey of Port Washington, Brian and Jaemi Abel Varansky of Mineral
City, and Missy Wood of New Philadelphia; great-grandchildren, Megan,
Michael and Jesse Crilley of Mineral City, Dillon, Devlin, Drake, Darian and Tremor Matthus of New Philadelphia, Bobby Brent Bitikofer II and Karen Loibl of Stone Creek, Tyler, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Karly Matthus and Noah Orr,
of Mineral City, Shyanne and Shiloh Matthus of New Philadelphia, Andy and
Alex Fish of Iowa, Shelby and Cheyenne Stukey of Port Washington, Devan
and Kanan Varansky of Mineral City, Megan and Nichole Loibl of Stone Creek; and a great-great granddaughter, Karly Bitikofer of Stone Creek.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-six years, Karl E. Matthus Sr.; a daughter, Josephine Galbraith Gadd; a grandson, Robert Brent Bitikofer; sons-in-law, Robert Wilson
Bitikofer and Ermil Gadd; and a sister, Eileen Craigo.
Evelyn�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Saturday, Dec. 30, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Dr. William C. Haggis officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
