Evelyn M. Strauss

Evelyn M. Strauss, 91, of Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, and a long-time resident of Strasburg, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, following a long illness.

Born, Aug. 21, 1917, in Stone Creek, Evelyn graduated from Stone Creek High School, and married Arthur F. Strauss. She was a loving homemaker, and for many years was employed by The Times-Reporter as its Strasburg area correspondent.

Evelyn was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. She had a real love of politics, having served as the secretary of the Tuscarawas Co. Democratic Party, and belonging to the Democratic Women of Tuscarawas Co. Evelyn was also the proud recipient of the Gertrude W. Donahey Award for her outstanding contributions to the party.

Survivors include two daughters, Ronda Renner of Strasburg, and Colleen (Gene) Everett of New Philadelphia; two sons, Richard (Terri) Strauss of Lodi, and John J. (Susanna) Strauss of Strasburg; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; a beloved son, Arthur C. Strauss; a sister, Bernice Lorenz; and a brother, Otis Gross.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Lynda K. Masters officiating. Burial will be later, following cremation, in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. Immediately after the funeral service, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
