Fern E. Carr, 70, a lifelong resident of Strasburg, died Thursday, August 22, 2002 in Massillon Community Hospital.
She was a well-known cake decorator, having operated Carr�(TM)s Decorated Cakes from her home for over 30 years.
Born October 28, 1931 in Strasburg, she was daughter of the late Kenneth & Cree Hoover Shaffer.
Fern was a longtime member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, being active in the choir for 56 years. She also helped with church bazaars and fundraisers where she would often times bake over 1500 cookies and hand decorate each one. She was gifted with the ability to enjoy doing a number of handcrafts such as: tole painting, woodcrafts, ceramics, making baskets, stained glass, knitting and crocheting. As her children were growing up, she was active as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. She was also a founding member of the Bona Mater mothers club.
Fern also taught many of the area�(TM)s current cake decorators when she taught cake decorating through a Dover adult education program.
On June 7, 1953, Fern married her loving husband, Arthur “Art” Carr, who survives.
Other survivors include: two children; Susan & Ed Shafer of Warren, Ohio, and Steven & Linette Carr of Baltic, two grandchildren; Eric & Melissa Shafer of Warren, two sisters; Faye Wallick of Dundee, and Shirley & Vernon Keim of Strasburg, brother; Robert Shaffer of Massillon.
In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Helen Grace Carr, and a sister, Doris Miller.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26, at 2:00pm in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Court officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg.
Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Sunday from 5-8pm, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
