Flora N. Plunk 86, also known as "Mams" by her grandchildren passed away suddenly at Union Hospital following an auto accident Sunday, April 4, 2010 shortly after she and her family were visiting the resting places of her husband, Roger and son, Jerry in the Dover Burial Park.
Born May 27, 1923 in Oakdale, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Otred Joseph and Essie Mae (Phillips) Hodgkinson.
She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal service in Canton, Ohio where she worked for over 20 years and formerly worked at the post office in Dundee.
Flora was a longtime volunteer in the mailroom at Aultman Hospital. She was a member of the Fohl Memorial United Methodist Church in Navarre. She was an outstanding oil painter where she enjoyed capturing outdoor scenery and adding her touch of color to black and white photographs. She also enjoyed traveling and will be remembered as the "energizer bunny" because she was never late to any event. For a brief time, while living in Beaumont, Texas, she worked as a hairdresser in a local funeral home.
In addition to her parents, Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Marcus Plunk to whom she was married for 54 years. They were married on August 11, 1943 until his passing on October 6, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry L. Plunk last year and a brother.
Flora is survived by her daughter, Brenda (husband, William) Stauffer of Sunbury, Ohio and her daughter in law, Paula Plunk of Dover. Five grandchildren Melissa (husband, Kevin) Ashcraft and Marcus A. Plunk both of Dover, Timothy (wife, Karen) Stauffer of Vincent, Ohio, Troy (wife, Jane) Stauffer of Hilliard and Tricia (husband, Andy) Malley of Columbus; six great grandchildren Aiden Ashcraft, Madison, McKenzie, and Cameron Stauffer, Kenna and Ronan Malley; two brothers, Robert Hodgkinson of Navato, California and William DeCoty of Nice, California.
Friends will be received on Friday, April 9 from 11am-1pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. A memorial service celebrating Flora's life will be held immediately following calling hours at 1pm with Pastor David West of the Fohl Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow beside her husband in the Dover Burial Park.
