Florence B. Stevenson, 92, of Strasburg, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Aultman Hospital in Canton from complications following surgery.
Florence was formerly Jewelry Director for the former Emmons Jewelry Company in Canton. She also assisted her husband, John in the operation of Stevenson Memorials in New Philadelphia. She was also a homemaker.
Born December 25, 1916 in Windsor Ontario Canada, she was the daughter of the late George Edgar and Edith Emily Louise (Cobbett) Boose.
Florence was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover and also attended First Church of the Brethren in New Philadelphia. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star #222 in New Philadelphia where she was the Worthy Matron in 1964. She was also active in the White Shrine in Dover. She had many interests over the years including crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and playing bingo. She especially loved playing cards with her grandchildren. She also traveled with her husband and spent several winters in Florida over those years. She will be remembered as an excellent cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Stevenson who died November 5, 1994 along with a daughter, Rhonda Lou; two sisters, Dorothy Crooker and Helen Wittenberg and a brother, Robert Boose.
Florence is survived by four children Harlene (husband, Paul) Reidenbach of Newark, Clare (wife Chris) Stevenson of New Philadelphia, Linda (husband, Jim) Levengood of Dover and John L. Stevenson Sr. of Gnaden/Tusky; eight grandchildren, Toby (Brooke) Reidenbach, Dani ( Aaron) Hixenbaugh, Lindsay (Stella) Stevenson, Courtney (Troy) Septer, Adam Levengood, John L. (Libby) Stevenson Jr., Christen (Jason) Marzelli, and Brian T. Stevenson. Two stepgrandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Henry and Megan (Chuck) Croy along with 16 great grandchildren and one great grandchild expected in December and two step great grandchildren.
Funeral services celebrating Florence's life will be held Monday, November 2, 2009 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastors Max Canfield and Ronald May officiating. Interment will be beside her husband in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8 pm and Monday one hour prior to services. Eastern Star services will be held Sunday at 7:30pm.
