Florence Zuchegno, 94 of Dover, died Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2008, in Park Village Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Florence was a life-long resident of Dover, born there on February 8, 1914, and was a faithful and devoted member of St. Joseph Church. She was a dedicated mother and worked hard all of her life. In her early years, she was employed by the former Dover Sad Iron Co. When her husband died in 1970, she returned to work cleaning the offices of the Hanhart Insurance Co. For many years, Florence also did the laundry for the priests at St. Joseph Church.
She was an avid sports enthusiast, and an ardent fan of Notre Dame. When not visiting her family and friends, she spent most evenings watching football, basketball and baseball games on TV.
For someone who didn't get her driver's license until she was well in to her forties, Florence loved driving and taking her friends on trips. She had no fear of negotiating the big cities of Detroit, Toledo, Dayton and Cincinnati to visit her children, and was often accompanied by her long-time friend, Margaret Pace.
In her later years, Florence enjoyed many bus trips to Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL. She always had interesting stories to tell about her adventures and the people she met on the bus.
Florence was a breast cancer survivor and considered herself blessed with her very long and healthy life. She was the first resident of Seton Square and was the oldest resident there until she moved to Park Village in August of 2007. She also loved walking and could often be seen traversing the area around Seton.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
