Floyd “Dean” Polen, 90, of Dundee passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.
Dean was born on April 22, 1934, in Harrison County. He was the son of the late Frank and Mary Esther (McGill) Polen. He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Polen; brothers, Ronald (Tilly) Polen and Charles (Becky) Polen, George (Biva) Polen; three sisters, Maxine (Everett) Bache, Ruth (Tom) Philippi, and Virginia (Aden) Miller.
Dean served in the Korean War with the United States Army. He was employed as a diesel mechanic at Commins Diesel in Strasburg, having retired in 1997 after 40 years of service. He also worked at Kimble for 17 years. Dean loved the outdoors and tinkering in his garage. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Adelia “Heidi” (Liegl) Polen of Dundee, whom he married on September 13, 1958; his children; Sue (Craig) Edwards of Dover, Katherine “Kate” (Jay) Dalpiaz of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, Therese (Lynn II) Kuhn of Sugarcreek; his grandchildren, Dana (Jeremy) Basiletti of Dover, Kristina (Andrew) Casida of Dover, Drew (Shannon) Edwards of Dover, Adam Edwards of Indiana, Kelly (Kyle) Engstrom of Sugarcreek, Kyle Kuhn of Strasburg, and Chaz Kuhn of Sugarcreek; his great-grandchildren, Camryn, Christian, Colson, Liam, Emma, Hudson, and Juliet; along with his sister, Wanda (Jeff) Kanode of Texas.
The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover has been entrusted with the cremation. Friends are invited to gather on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will be held starting at 11:00 am with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. A funeral reception will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
