Frances Gooding Harmon, 94, of New Dawn Health Care Center, Dover, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in the center.
Born Jan. 24, 1909, in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Edith Robinette Gooding. Frances attended the College of Wooster and Ohio University, obtaining her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in Port Washington, and went on to teach in Goshen. Frances married Raymond C. Harmon on Mar. 12, 1943, and the couple moved to Texas, where Ray was serving with the Army Air Corps. Frances taught school in Texas also. She took time off to raise her family, and then returned to teaching, retiring from Midvale Elementary School in the Indian Valley North School District.
Frances was a member of the First Moravian Church and the Lady Lions, both of Dover.
Survivors include a son, Joel R. Harmon, of Cortland; a sister, Jeanie Sibley of Daytona Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 1997; a son, Steven Harmon; a sister, Nora Furbay; and two brothers, Johnny and Jim Gooding.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the First Moravian Church, with Rev. Allen L. Bergmann officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the church. Visitation will be Friday (today), Feb. 7, 2003, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover.
