Frances Jane Spear, 88, of Sugarcreek, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a brief illness.
Born Mar. 25, 1921, in Tippecanoe, Jane was a daughter of the late John and Ora Harding Kinsey. She graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1938, and, in 1939, married Robert W. “Bob” Spear. Jane was a loving homemaker who was thoroughly devoted to her family. In her later years, she was employed by the Alpine Hills Museum and Gerber�(TM)s Store, both of Sugarcreek.
Jane was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek, as well as the Pythian Sisters. She very much enjoyed playing cards (Bridge, 500 and Euchre) with her card club, going to lunch with friends and attending Garaway High School basketball games. She was a dear, sweet soul, considerate and giving to a fault, who did not have an unkind word for anyone.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan J. (partner, Bob Francis) Spear of Lake Milton; two sons, Benny W. Spear of Bellevue, NE, and John R. Spear of Petaluma, CA; grandsons, Gregory J. and Robert A. Spear; a great-grandson, Kai G. Spear; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1975; three sisters, Blanche Zimmerly, Mary Milleson and Lucille Morris; and by two brothers, Ray and Floyd Kinsey.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 1, at 3:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Anissa Bacon officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral on Monday, 2:30 �" 3:30 p.m.
