Frances L. Filkins, 84, a longtime Dover resident, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011.
In her younger years, she enjoyed her work as a licensed cosmetologist and beautician, but spent the better part of her life as a homemaker, which she loved just as much.
She was born June 29, 1927 in Wayne County, the daughter of the late True L. and Ozella L. Kean Armstrong.
A 1946 graduate of Shreve High School and member of Dover's Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, she will be remembered as a "favorite aunt," as well as for her great personality and love of animals -especially dogs.
For 54 years, Frances was married to the love of her life, Walter E. Filkins, who preceded her in death on March 7, 2010.
Survivors include: a brother, Thomas (wife, Dorothy) Armstrong of Shreve; and nine nieces and nephews, Thomas (Laura) Allen, Richard Allen, Christine Calvert, George (Janet) Strassburger, Celia Pang, Cindy (Tim) Larson, Diane (Doug) Thompson, Mary (Jeff) Gindlesberger, and Jim (Pam) Armstrong.
A funeral service celebrating Frances' life will be held Saturday, January 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Rev. Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park.
Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Frances by visiting the "Obituaries & Flowers" link on the funeral home's website.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to either Grace Lutheran Church, 216 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, or to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6985 Dover Zoar Rd., Dover, OH 44622.
