Francis (Frank) William Pietro Sr., 79, of 266 Colonial Ave. S.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio and also resided in Pompano Beach, Florida the last 15 years died Friday, September 19, 2003 peacefully at his home.
Frank was born July 13, 1924 in Dover, Ohio, the son of the late Enrico and Marie Marcone Pietro.
Frank owned and operated many business ventures that included the Dinner Bell Restaurant and Frank�(TM)s Muffler Shop both in Dover. He retired in 1983 from the Marketing Division of the former Joy Manufacturing Company at New Philadelphia.
Frank was a member of the St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church at Dover and Life Member of the Dover VFW. He was a 1942 graduate of Dover High School. Frank enjoyed investing in Real Estate and had a passion for automobiles, especially Cadillacs. Both of these passions have been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
As a member of the United States Army during World War II, Frank served as a tank destroyer in the European Theater. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart for his heroics during the war.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Isabell (Finzer) Pietro and five children: Frank Jr. (Cynthia) and Steve both of Dover, Jack (Kimberly) Pietro, Mary Jo (Emery) Kunzman, and Jennie Harris all of Florida; He is also survived by one sister, Norma O�(TM)Connell and a brother, Leo Pietro both of Florida and nine grandchildren, Theresa, Rico, James, Perry, and Gina Pietro, Brandon and Jordan Harris, Kelly and Kara Kunzman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Rudy Pietro.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 11 am in the Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia with Fr. William Arnold officiating. (Those attending the mass should go directly to the church). Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends will be received Monday from 6-8 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover.
