Francis H. Welling, 80, of Dover, Ohio died Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
Francis retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad where he worked for over 40 years.
Born February 18, 1922 in New Bedford, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harvey and Angie Mencer Welling.
He was a Life member of the Dover VFW and a member of the Tuscarawas County D.A.V., Dover Moose and Eagles Lodges. He served in the US Army during World War II where he received a purple heart and bronze star. He was in the infantry and fought in the Normandy Campaign.
He is survived by his wife E. Eileen Schuler Welling with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage on April 12.
He is also survived by his daughter Diane Altier of Dover; four grandchildren Trisha and Michael Altier and David and April. Three brothers and one sister; Harvey (Emma) Welling of Canton, Adrian (Marilyn) Welling of Coshocton, Margaret (Earl) Morris of Coshocton, and Myron Welling of New Bedford along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Welling; one son, David Welling; three sisters, Ruth Jones, Arlene Thomas, and Ann Limbacher; and two brothers, Arthur and Paul Welling.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Steven Daniels officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6-8 pm.
