Francis John "Frank" Alesiano, 84, a lifelong resident of Dover died peacefully Friday, October 2, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover lovingly surrounded by his family.
Frank retired in 1989 from the Greer Steel Company at Dover following thirty six years of service. Following retirement, he worked at the Tuscarawas County YMCA for ten years.
Born March 6, 1925 in Dover, he was the son of the late Angelo and Carmela (Infanti) Alesiano. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Alesiano, a brother, Peter Alesiano, and six sisters, Josephine Melchiore, Mary Korns, Rose Beitzel, Minnie Bair, Viola White, and Helen Martin.
Frank was a 1943 graduate of Dover High School where he was an outstanding football player having earned All Ohio Honors and was proud to have played on the 1942 undefeated team. He served in the Merchant Marines and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran where he was a 1st Class Signalman on the U.S.S. Doherty.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover along with the Dover VFW, Elks, and Moose lodges. He was an avid Ohio State and Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed golfing, swimming, reading, history, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Frank is survived by his wife Josephine Ann (Contini) Alesiano with whom he celebrated sixty years of marriage on September 20; he is also survived by four children Frank (wife, Cindy) Alesiano, Buffy (husband, Tim) Monteith both of Dover, Pamela (husband, Craig) Beattie of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Drusilla Ann Alesiano of Elyria and three grandchildren, Bryan Alesiano of Florida, Michael Alesiano and Mallory Alesiano both of Dover.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Anthony Lonzo officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside honors. There are no calling hours.
