Francis R. "Dick" Huff

Francis R. "Dick" Huff, 88, of Dover died Sunday, January 10, 2016 in the Community Hospice House.

Born July 10, 1927 in Dover he was a son of the late Francis J. and Adella Portz Huff. Dick was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Huff and sisters, Marjorie Immell and Katherine Strong.

Dick was a 1945 graduate of Dover High School and immediately joined the United States Navy for the duration of WW II. Following his discharge, he enrolled at Denison University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1950. He loved all sports, but his greatest passion was football. While in the Navy, he played football for Paul "Bear" Bryant and was coached by Woody Hayes when he was at Denison University where he played on two undefeated seasons. After his collegiate career, Dick was inducted into the Denison University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Marlowe Huff; children, David (Lucinda) Huff of Farmersville, Nancy (Tim) Cordial of Montana, Susan (Dan) Maloney of Bay Village and Tim (Cindy) Huff of Minnesota; sisters, Dorothy Pettibone of Massachusetts, Barbara (Dick) Ellwood of Lancaster; step children, Marty (Robert) Morris, Michael (Karen) Marlowe, Julia (Alan) Kirby, Amy (Roger Jones) Keh; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and his former wife, Lois Huff of Sugarcreek.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 10:30 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Donald Rice officiating. Interment of the ashes will be in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
