Fred S. Stanke, 69, of Canton, and formerly of Dover, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Aultman Hospital following a battle with Myasthenia Gravis.
Born on March 21, 1952 in Massillon he was a son of the late Frasher and Ruth Wilson Stanke. Fred was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace Henry; and his beloved cats, XJ and Spot.
He retired from Rexroth in Wooster as a mainframe programmer. He had also worked as a lab assistant at Stark State College and held a variety of other technology positions at different companies. Always one to stay busy, Fred was also a Deputy Sheriff for Stark County and served on the Navarre Police Department. He was a 1970 graduate of Dover High School. Fred was a hard worker, but he also enjoyed his hobbies and would commit himself to each one, especially fishing, flying his own plane, riding his Harley, target shooting and playing his guitars.
A wonderful and fun loving father, brother and grandfather, Fred is survived by his children, Dr. Jennifer (Richard) Stanke of Akron, Jillian (Adam) Dodd of Canton, Jonathan (Kari) Stanke of Pickerington; brother, Kevin (Donna) Stanke of Dover; grandchildren, Gabriel, Lilly, Micah, Maddie, Sage; aunt, Sheila Wilson; cousins, Price and Alison; niece, Sara Stanke; nephew, Mark Stanke; former spouse (and forever friend), Carol Stanke.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at a later date.
