Freda A. Reed

Freda A. Reed, 96, of Strasburg and formerly of Wilmot and Massillon died Saturday, January 28, 2006 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia after a long illness.

Born August 31, 1909 in Gilmer County, West Virginia she was a daughter of the late Robert and Eva Short Nicholson.

Freda truly celebrated life through her family and faith. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child and inspired all whom she met throughout her life. She loved the simple joys, working with flowers, writing letters and reading her bible.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband Clifton D. Reed whom she married on August 8, 1931.

She is survived by two sons, H. Nelson (Kathleen) Reed of New Philadelphia and William L. Reed also of New Philadelphia; two daughters, Eva “Jane” (Kenneth) Shonk of Strasburg and Judie (Donald) Bickford of Brewster; three half brothers, Robert, Gene and Tom Nicholson; two half sisters, Betty Mullaney and Peggy Gaines; five grandchildren, Thomas Reed, William A. Reed, Donald Bickford II, Donnette Carney and Holly (Jim) George; two step-grandchildren, Kathy (Mark) Grimm and Carol (Don) Wardell; seven great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; 11 step great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Holmes and Brooks Nicholson and four sisters, Wilma Adams, Ella Peters, Mary Jenkins and Georgia Corder.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 1:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with pastors Albert Knaggs and Ron Howard officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Park at Massillon. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
