Frederick D. “Fritz” Huprich, 85, of Dover passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness.
Born September 12, 1933 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Arthur and Margaret Ditmar Huprich. Fred was also preceded in death by his wife, June A. Huprich on January 3, 2015; brother, Kent Huprich and a brother in law, Ed Barthelmeh.
Fritz was a 1952 gradutate of Baltic High School, and proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army from 1953 to 1954. Following the war, he was employed at Greer Steel and retired after 40 years of service, having spent the last 31 of those years as the Paymaster. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover where he sang in the chancel choir and served on church council. Fritz was a long-time and devoted member of the Tuscarawas Lodge #59 F&AM in Dover, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine in Akron, York Rite, Order of Eastern Star, past president of the Masters Warden and Secretaries Association of Tuscarawas County, and past president of Tuscarawas County Shrine Club. Fritz had a passion for raising horses, and continued to do so until a few years ago. He was also a past president of Western Reserve Carriage Association and a charter member of the Norwegian Fjords Horse Registry.
Fritz is survived by his sisters, Katharine Barthelmeh, Caroline Huprich both of Dover; sister in law, Faye Huprich of Sugarcreek; nieces and nephews, Susan Barthelmeh, Terry (Kim) Barthelmeh, Cynthia (Tom) Harmon, Charles, Rhonda and Dale (Susan) Huprich and Deborah (Tom) Foust.
The family would like to thank Carol and Wayne King for all they have done to help Fritz the past few months.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6 at 11:00 am in the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dover with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Wednesday (Today) from 5-7 pm with Masonic Services starting at 6:45.
