Frederick J. Hardwidge

Frederick J. "Fred" Hardwidge, 95, of Somerdale passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover.

Born on May 31, 1916 in Somerdale, he was the son of the late James and Clara Miller Hardwidge. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his life-long companion; Alicemae Maher; brothers, Charles and Hughie Hardwidge; three sisters, Georgia Ann McCreery, Mary Hardwidge, and Flora Marie Mullins.

He graduated from New Cumberland High School. Fred honorably served our country in the United States Army during WWII.

Fred retired from The Timken Company in New Philadelphia where he worked as a grinder for 36 years.

He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course up until he was 90 years old. Fred enjoyed all sports, especially Ohio State football, of which he was a season ticket holder for over 49 years. He enjoyed traveling to support the Buckeyes. He also had a passion for traveling throughout the United States as well as internationally.

He will be sadly missed by his sisters; Emma Myers of Dover, Sylvia Locker of Somerdale, along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Interment will take place at Somerdale Cemetery where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
