Gary A. Courtwright, 85, of Strasburg died Sunday, September 29, 2024, in the Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar following a period of declining health. 

Gary retired as an electric supervisor for the Timken Company in Canton following 30 years of service. 

Born Jan. 10, 1939, in West Lafayette, Ohio, he was the son of the late Donald and Marjorie (Mobley) Courtwright. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis (Larry) Patterson; brother-in-law, Neil Ansberry and sister-in-law, Diana Potts.  

He was a 1956 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and attended the Columbus Business University. He proudly served his country in the submarine division of the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg and was a member of the Newcomerstown American Legion, Buffalo, Ohio VFW, and life member of the New Philadelphia Elks. Following retirement, Gary enjoyed spending time with their many friends at the cottage at Seneca Lake. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, attending car shows with his 1949 Plymouth Coupe, and playing euchre.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Beverly (Ansberry) Courtwright with whom he would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on Nov. 7; his daughter, Heather (Dr. Brad) Presnal of Columbia, S.C., his son, Kyle (Amy) Courtwright of Strasburg; three grandsons, Zane, Garen, and Renner Presnal and a brother, Terry (Marilyn) Courtwright of Charlestown, West Virginia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Greg (Teresa) Ansberry of Cambridge, two sisters-in-law, Debbie Ansberry and Connie Ansberry along with several nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Strasburg with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating followed by a luncheon in the funeral home reception center. The Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 211 8TH St. S.W., Strasburg, Ohio 44680.
