George A. Bell

George Allen Bell, 82, of Dover, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a long illness.

Born Mar. 29, 1920, in Toledo, he was a son of the late Tracy and Cecelia Tyson Bell. George served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as a civil servant from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, following thirty-six years of service. George and his wife, Catherine, moved to Dover seven years ago from Enon, OH.

He was a member of Grace Bible Church, Springfield, and the Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. George painted pictures, enjoyed gardening, fishing and working puzzles, but above all, he loved his family.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Pittenger Bell, whom he married Dec. 24, 1948; a daughter, Kay Coombs of Dover two sons, George Allen Bell (Marsha) Bell, Jr. of Dayton, and Eugene Clayton (Marguerite Susanne) Bell of Coshocton; ten grandchildren, Ronald Coombs, Jr., Catherine Penrod, Rachel Tice, Paul Coombs, Elizabeth Coombs, Melissa and David Bell, Amy McDonaugh, Shiloh Bell, and John-Mark Bell; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Bell of Toledo; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., in the Toland Herzig Funeral Home, Dover, with Rev. Marvin Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Military rites will be presented by the Dover post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a reception in “The Barn” of First Baptist Church, 878 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia.
