George F. "Fritz" Deibel

George Frederick "Fritz" Deibel, 93, of Strasburg died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in the Park Village Health Care Center.

Born April 20, 1923 in Strasburg he was a son of the late Lyhl and Beatrice Yackey Deibel. Fritz was also preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Katherine Reed Deibel; his second wife of 29 years, Betty Dodson Deibel and nine brothers and sisters.

Fritz proudly served his country with the United States Army in the European Theater during WW II. He was with the 753rd Tank Battalion of the 7th Army attached to the 36th Infantry. Following his military service, he was a long time employee of the Columbia Fire Brick Company and eventually retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Fritz was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and was a 69 year member of the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion where he served as both Commander and Sergeant-At-Arms. Throughout his life, he enjoyed bowling, beating everyone at euchre and jass, traveling and being with family and friends.

A wonderful and loving father and grandfather, Fritz will be sadly missed by his son, Craig (Peg) Deibel of North Canton; granddaughters, Natalie Deibel of Wisconsin, Anna (Justen) Stickley of North Canton, Erica Deibel (Brian Cohen) of Dublin; great grandchildren, Carter and Kennedy Stickley; step-daughter, Sue (John) Ubrin of Mingo Junction; step-grandchildren, Rick (Kate) Dodson, Troy (Amanda) Dodson, Chris (Heidi) Dodson, Eric (Angela) Dodson all of Columbus, Amy (Steve) Gaydosh, Kilee (Chris) Canestraro all of Mingo Junction, Mindi (Troy) Dixon of Pennsylvania and 15 step-great grandchildren; siblings, Eloise Thomas of Strasburg, Helen Marshall of Richfield, Esther Echelberry of Tallmadge, Ray Deibel of Dalton and many loving in laws, and special neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. James Taggart officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 pm. The family is especially thankful to the countless Hospice and Park Village caregivers who always treated dad with the utmost respect, compassion and humor.
