George T. Bruun, age 92, of Dover, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia.
Born January 24, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George T. and Bertha Servenak Bruun. George graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943, and entered the United States Navy during the height of the Second World War, serving in the South Pacific with P.T. Boat Squadron 10. He married the former Sara Jane "Sally" Jackson on July 15, 1944 in the Brunswick Naval Air Station Chapel, Brunswick Maine.
George retired as Executive Vice President and General Manager of FabOhio of Uhrichsville. He had also served as Vice President of Manufacturing of the former Miracle Adhesives, New Philadelphia.
He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia, where he was an elder and trustee. George served on the boards of the Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless, the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry, the Beaver County (Pennsylvania) Children's Home, United Way of Tuscarawas County, and Personal and Family Counseling Service of Tuscarawas Valley. Additionally, he was a member of the Dover Elks Lodge, Rochester (Pennsylvania) Lions Club and the Twin City Chamber of Commerce of which he was past-president.
George is survived by his two daughters, Christina Bruun-Horrigan of Urbana (Kevin), and Lisa A. Bruun-Seibold of Columbus; his granddaughters, Katherine B. Horrigan Garcia (Arturo), Sarah B. Horrigan Ramos (Marden), and Marguerite B. Seibold; his great-grandchildren, Laila B. and Zakari E. Ramos and Prudence A. Seibold; his sister, Agnes Evans of Pittsburgh; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ben Smallridge.
In addition to his parents; George was preceded in death by his dear wife of sixty-six years, Sally, in 2010; his sister, Helen E. Miller; and his son-in-law, Tom Seibold.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 16, 10 11 a.m., at New Philadelphia's First Presbyterian Church; a memorial service, officiated by George's son-in-law, Rev. R. Kevin Horrigan of the First Presbyterian Church, Urbana, will follow at 11. A brief committal service will be held in Dover Burial Park directly after the memorial.
