Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Lynch, 80, of Dover passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Olean, New York, to Francis and Dorothy (Karl) Lynch on September 5, 1943.
Jerry was a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School. He attended college at the University of Scranton and graduated from Union College in Barberville, Kentucky in 1964. He later earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Akron.
Jerry got his first teaching job at Tuscarawas Valley High School and later taught at Strasburg High School. He then became the manager of school buses and the cafeteria at the Indian Valley School District. He taught accounting at Buckeye Career Center when it opened until his retirement in 1997. Jerry also taught evening classes at Kent State Tuscarawas. Jerry also was in business with Tom Armstrong running TJ’s gas station in Dover. He had his own tax business for many years. Following his retirement, he began backhoe digging and limestone delivery for driveways.
He enjoyed trap shooting and even went to the State Championship with his talents. Jerry had two tractors at one time; a John Deer, and a Ford. The Ford was his pride and joy. He took it to many shows and was proud of his awards and trophies.
Jerry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover, the Knights of Columbus, and the Moose.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Charlotte (Genovese) Lynch, whom he married on October 28, 1967; his children, Karen Jablonski (Kelly Freeman) of Dover, Susan (Mike) Hinmon of San Diego, CA, and Chris Lynch of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Genovese Hinmon, Merrick Hinmon, Sydney Lynch, and Shae Lynch; his sister-in-law, Bernice Lynch; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, David who died in 2001, and John Lynch who passed on December 14, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 11:30 am until Mass starts at 1:00. There will be a meal served at the Family Life Center following the service. Jerry’s family wants to thank his incredible caregivers; Rachel, Lisa, Veronica, and Helen. They also want to thank Community Hospice for the compassionate care they received in their final journey.
