Gerald L. "Jerry" Dotts

Gerald L. “Jerry” Dotts, 84, of Dover passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 in the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born on February 4, 1938 in Dover he was a son of the late Homer and Anne Smitley Dotts. Jerry was also preceded in death by his siblings, Sonny, Jack and Tiny Dotts, Gracey Dotts and Betty Champion.

He proudly served his country with the United States Army, and retired in 1994 from AK Steel in Dover after more than 30 years of service. Jerry was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed rooting for his Dover Tornadoes. In his younger years, he loved bowling and roller-skating and even drove a bus for Columbia Skateland. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard, and playing cards, especially poker and euchre.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Dorsey Dotts whom he married on April 30, 1966; children, Beth (companion, Jeff McCarty) Reynolds of Dundee, Debbie (Todd) Hilton of Dover, Michael (Heather) Dotts of Stone Creek; brothers, Chick (Carol) Dotts of New Philadelphia, Richard (Doris) Dotts Sr. of Dover; sisters, Vicki (Bob) Todd of Akron, Dorothy Church of Dover, Helen Myers of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Amanda (Sean) Pompey, Andrew (Cheyenne) Pompey, Sydney and Cassidy Hilton, Gemma, Cora, Aria and Isla Dotts; great grandchildren, Garyson Pulley, Liam and Oliver Pompey; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 7th starting at 11:00 am in the St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff at Community Hospice Truman House for their wonderful and compassionate care shown towards Jerry.
