Gladys I. Miller Ellison

Gladys I. Miller Ellison, 95, of Dover passed away Monday, May 15, 2006 in the New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover.

Born May 30, 1910 in Dover she was a daughter of the late Burnell and Jennie Ferris Miller.

She served as a Salvation Army officer for 25 years attaining the rank of Major. Gladys worked for another 20 years with the Salvation Army, retiring at the age of 65 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She lived in Millville, New Jersey for 22 years and then returned to Ohio and resided at the New Dawn Retirement Community until her death.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband James L. Ellison who died on April 3, 1983.

She is survived by a son, Major Charles Williams of Erie, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Lt. Colonel Gladys DeMichael of Clearwater, Florida and Claire Richtmyer of Lima, Ohio; nieces, Gladys Ruggeri, Rose Ann Beitzel and Catherine Miller; nephew, Joseph Miller; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John B. Miller.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Salvation Army at Dover with Major Janice Carlson officiating. Cremation will follow the service with interment of the ashes at the Kensico Cemetery in New York. Friends can call at the Salvation Army on hour prior to the service on Saturday. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory in Dover is handling arrangements.
