Gladys N. Burgess

Gladys Nora Burgess, 71, of Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Union Hospital in Dover.

Born October 29, 1936 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Guy C. and Sarah Matthew Walker Goshorn.

Gladys was a former employee of General Telephone Co. and the former Stallard's Foodliner in Dover. She also previously worked for Sparta Manufacturing and Nichols Discount City.

She was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover. She was a 1955 graduate of Strasburg Franklin High School. She enjoyed gardening and going to garage sales. She also loved to follow the Dover Tornadoes sports teams and was a Cleveland Indians fan and liked listening to Tom Hamilton call the games on the radio.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip M. Burgess with whom she married March 29, 1958. He died January 9, 1986. She was also preceded by an infant son, her mother in law and father in law, Bruce and Amy (Sheets) Burgess, brothers and sisters law, Ralph Simmers, Sherrell Burgess, William and Betty Burgess, Charles Burgess, and William and Alice Koch.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law Steven and Sue Ann (Kennedy) Burgess of Dover; her granddaughter, Stephanie Ann (Josh) Stevenson of Dover and her grandson, Shane Burgess of Dover; four sisters Alice (Clinton) Prough of Strasburg, Verna Simmers of New Philadelphia, Rosalie (Paul) Reynolds of Dover and Mary Jane Goshorn of Canton; brothers and sisters in law, James "Bill" and Phyllis Maxine Waldo of Dover, Robert and Emma Lou Numbers of Dover, Dessie Burgess of Dover, Herbert Burgess of Florida, Ralph and Bernadine Leggett of Buckhannon, WV along with many nieces and nephews.

Rev. Allen Bergmann will officiate private graveside services for the family on Friday in the Dover Burial Park. There are no calling hours.
