Glen I. Lautenschleger, 72, of Strasburg died Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Union Hospital following a sudden illness.
Glen was a fixture in the Village of Strasburg where he owned and operated Glen's Service Center on Wooster Avenue for 31 years. Following retirement from the service center, Glen was an employee of Newton Asphalt for sixteen years. Glen could often be identified in town as the guy with the hat running up and down the street to the parts store, the fire department, or the post office. There are many adjectives to describe Glen including friendly, outgoing, helpful, full of energy, cheerful and always smiling to name a few. He was a "friend" to everyone who knew him.
He was born May 26, 1937 in Coshocton County, the son of the late Floyd and Esta (Goss) Lautenschleger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Jr., a sister in law, Donna Jean Lautenschleger and a nephew.
He was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strasburg where he served many years on church council and the choir and on numerous committees within the church. He also served the community of Strasburg as a firefighter and EMT for the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. He was a 1955 graduate of Baltic High School and was a member of the Dover Moose Lodge #707 and the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge #602. He enjoyed manicuring his lawn. His grandchildren will remember him for his many stories and the love he had for each of them. He also believed in helping others by donating many gallons of blood over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Croft) Lautenschleger. They were married on February 4, 1956 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Baltic. He is also survived by three sons Rick (wife, Steph) Lautenschleger of Strasburg, Steve (wife, Sharon) Lautenschleger of Tijeras, New Mexico, and David (wife, Susan) Lautenschleger of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Heather, T.J. and his friend, Megan, Julianna, Josie, and Aleca; six brothers and sisters, Kathryn Lautenschleger of Baltic, Mary Lou (husband, Dean) Huprich of Cambridge, Erma Mae (husband, Glenn) Lorenz of Coshocton, Roland Lautenschleger of Kentucky, Jake (wife, Lois) Lautenschleger of Baltic, Rich (wife, Louise) Lautenschleger of Baltic and a sister in law, Marlene Lautenschleger of Baltic. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
At Glen's request, cremation will take place and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Halifax Cemetery in Coshocton County.
