Glen R. Swegheimer

Glen R. "Red" Swegheimer, 88, of Dover, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, following a brief illness.

Born, November 1, 1919, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Charles and Maude Kuhn Swegheimer. Red attended school in New Philadelphia, and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army with the 381st Medical Unit during the Second World War. Following his service time, Red went to work for Union Camp Corporation Chemical Division (now Arizona Chemical), ultimately retiring as chief mechanic after forty-three years there.

He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture along with wooden cut-out craft pieces. Red was a welder, and fashioned plant stands along with other useful items out of metal. He was very handy and could repair nearly anything. Red enjoyed traveling and did so extensively around the United States with his family. He also liked hunting and trapping.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Roger) Clawson and Kristy (Bruce) Gray, both of Dover; four grandchildren, Marc (Sonya) Clawson, Angela Clawson (friend, Brian Welsh) Clawson, Jaime Gray and Justin Gray (friend, Panupan Savettapan); four great-grandchildren, Phillip, Jonathan, Stephanie and Tori Myers; a sister, Lucille Beaber of New Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Kathyleen Hanks Swegheimer, in 1996; an infant daughter and son, Sandra and John Swegheimer; and by a brother Dale Swegheimer.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, May 22, 6 8 p.m. A funeral service for Red will be held Friday, May 23, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Michael W. Lowry of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
