Glenna Mae Cecil-Blacka

Glenna Mae Cecil-Blacka, 73, of Dover, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother drew her last breath on Thursday, December 31, 2020. Never a lover of the new year, she went out on her own terms, running through the gates of heaven to reunite with family and pets who beat her there.

Born August 12, 1947 in Zanesville she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Goldie Dowling Moore. Glenna was also preceded in death by her first husband, John T. Cecil on January 25, 2008 and a brother, Glenn Moore II. She was a 1965 graduate of Maysville High School.

Glenna had a larger than life personality, she loved everyone and she loved BIG. She never knew a stranger, and everyone was a friend. She enjoyed hosting large family parties, card club gatherings, cooking, collecting snowmen and shopping for “treasures”. She was a homemaker and master decorator who found joy in the simple things of life. Glenna was an amazing mother, an avid reader of bedtime stories and thrower of nightly popcorn parties. Her philosophy was to make the world a better place by giving to charity, talking with your neighbors, learning everyone’s name, always having your friend’s back, giving of your time, always being prepared, feeding the strays, and ALWAYS listening to your mother’s advice. For all who loved her, she said she will see you in heaven, but take your time getting there.

Glenna is survived by her second husband, Lowell Blacka; children, Heather (James) Blacka of Dover, Cody Cecil of Norton; brother, Gene (Wanda) Moore of Zanesville; sister, Gloria (Richard) Allison of New Albany; grandchildren, Tori, Kaci, Chloe and Parker Blacka; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, JoeAnn Moore of Zanesville, Nedra (Paul) Johnson of Gratiot; step-daughters, Cindy Moss of Virginia, Kathy Burley of Texas; best friend, Cheryl Stringfellow and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on her birthday, Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia. Per Glenna’s wishes, her remains will stay with the family so she doesn’t miss any family gatherings.

Glenna’s family would like to thank Dr. Rafique, his staff, and her “girls” at Park Village who took care of her during rehab. Also, a thank you to the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus for their excellent care.
