Gloria E. (Paris) Dallau, 86, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2012 in Union Hospital lovingly surrounded by many of her family.
Gloria owned and operated the former Paris Beauty Salon in New Philadelphia for many years. She had previously worked for Ladel Conveyor the predecessor of the Joy Mfg. Co. in New Philadelphia.
Born Dec. 1, 1925 in Roswell, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Louis "Nubby" and Ida Mae (Graham) Paris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Louis Paris.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and had also attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bolivar. She attended Midvale High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1943. Following high school, she proudly worked at the Fisher Body Bomber Plant in Cleveland as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II having worked on B-29 Aircraft. She graduated from the Gerber Beauty School. She enjoyed participating in golf and bowling leagues and her bowling team, Clum Tire won several bowling league championships. Her family will remember her for her excellence in cooking where she specialized in polenta, knittles and other French Austrian dishes. In her earlier years, she served as a PTA President and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She and her husband, Jack were part of "The Flakes" group of friends. During basketball season, Gloria could often be found in front of the television watching her Cleveland Cavs. In addition to her daughters, among her proudest moments was the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would spend countless hours rocking each one and humming the "Grandma Gloria" song. She also enjoyed gardening. She lived her life as a positive and shining example for her family and those who knew her know that she never spoke negatively about anyone.
She will be sadly missed by her family including her husband Lewis "Jack" Dallau with whom she would have been married 66 years this Sept. 21; two daughters Jacque (Tim) Halter of New Philadelphia and Joyce (John) Herzig of Dover; six grandchildren, Kellie (Joe) Feik , Kory H. Kochera, Wesley (Kelli) Halter, Trevor and Troy Herzig and Tricia (Joel) McKinnon; 13 great grandchildren, Josephine, Deany, Lewis, Leo, Jaclyn, Stella, Kylan, Alyssa, Ava, Alyvia, Jack, Stone and Klaire along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her life and faith will be celebrated during a funeral mass on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:30am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday from 5-7pm where Christian Wake Services will begin at 7pm.
