Gordon R. Zeigler, 87, of Strasburg died at his home on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
Born April 9, 1927 in Strasburg he was a son of the late Gordon S. "Boney" and Laura Mae Noble Zeigler. Gordon was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alma P. Zeigler on September 24, 2007; four sisters and a brother.
He proudly served his country during WW II with the United States Army having obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his discharge from the service, he went immediately into the trucking business having been the Owner and President of GR Zeigler Trucking Inc. for many years. Gordon was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg where he served in many different capacities within the church. He was also a member of Atwood Yacht Club and the Dover Elks. Gordon loved mowing his yard on his Gravely Tractor and spending time with his great grandson, Hunter.
Gordon is survived by his son, Rick (Denise) Zeigler; granddaughter, Heather (Scott) Finley and great grandson, Hunter Finley all of Strasburg; sisters, Betty Dougherty of New Philadelphia, Mona Miller of Strasburg and his beloved cat, Togy.
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 28 at 11:00 am in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg with Rev. Gary Friend officiating. There are no public calling hours. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg is handling arrangements.
