Grace Marie Simmers Long, 74, of Strasburg passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 in the Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar.
She was born on June 17, 1947 in Dover and was a daughter of the late C. Katherine Reardon Simmers. In addition to her mother, Grace was also preceded in death by her sisters, Emma Simmers, Betty Simmers Douglass; and brother, Donald Simmers.
Grace was a 1965 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and attended Kent State Tuscarawas from 1965-1966. She had been employed at the New Philadelphia Public Library, Glastic Corp. in Strasburg, IF Manufacturing in New Philadelphia and finally retired from Wayne-Dalton in Mt. Hope. Grace was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and PERI. She volunteered her time with the Salvation Army Kitchen, UMC Carpenter’s Cupboard and at the Kent State Performing Arts Center where she served as an usher. Grace loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren, they were the center of her life. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, reading, swimming and boating at the lake, going out to dinner with friends and attending and working at the church.
Grace is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles E. “Chuck” Long whom she married on December 31, 1966; children, Chip (Amy) Long of Canal Fulton, Ruthann Kallach of Avon Lake; sister, Katie McEaneney of Dover; brother, Ronald (Cenie) Simmers of Canton; grandchildren, Trisha (Paul) Gibbs, Savanah Nicole (Drew) Fulton, Hunter Marie Kallach, Carter Ann Kallach; great grandchild, Jayden Fulton and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg. A service celebrating Grace's life will be held on Saturday, May 28th starting at noon in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Matthew Wald officiating. The family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
