Grant Lowery, 66, of Dover died suddenly on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Union Hospital.
He had retired from Arizona Chemical, formerly Union Camp, in Dover after 25 years of service. Following his retirement, he continued his employment at the Times Reporter.
Born July 11, 1942 in Luverne, Alabama he was a son of the late Charles H. "C.H." and Bessie L. Long Lowery. His brother, James Lowery and four sisters, Eula Green, Naomi Barnett, Ruth McKenzie and Josephine Lowery, also preceded him in death.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dover. Grant was very active in the Masonic Order having been the Past Master of the J.B. Easely Lodge #111 in Uhrichsville, Excellent High Priest of the Royal Arch Mason, St. Luke #35 in Canton, Past Potentate of the Al Kaff Temple #109 in Akron, The Ohio Council of Deliberation, Bezaleel Consistory #15, Most Wise United Supreme Council all of Cleveland. He was also a 33 Mason, Illustrious Grand Inspector General 33 and was the Past Grand Officer of the State of Ohio. Grant enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing and walking his favorite dog, Emeril.
Grant is survived by his loving wife, Brenda J. Compton Lowery with whom he celebrated nine years of marriage on June 26, 2008. He is also survived by his daughter, Bessie L. Lowery of Columbus; three brothers, E.D. Lowery of Elyria, Charles (Veronica) Lowery of Gary, Indiana, Joseph (Ann) Lowery of New Philadelphia; eight sisters, Cleo Harper, Orpah Harvey, Linda (Ocie) Brown all of Detroit, Jeannette (Willie C.) Grant of New Philadelphia, Jo Lynn (Tony) Miller of Milford, Michigan, Carol (Sam) Sims of Dayton, Fronnie Pearl Peterson of Dennison and Edna Peterson of Steubenville. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, and will be sadly missed by his faithful dog, Emeril.
A celebration of Grant's life will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the First Baptist Church at Dover with Rev. Christopher Lowery and Rev. Robert Sherrell officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Sunday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Dover.
